Here are some highlights from this wonderful regional destination.

Create Memories in Florida’s Beaches of South Walton

Relaxation, scenic beauty, charm, rejuvenation, room to breathe, and natural are just a few of the words that have been used by visitors to describe the Beaches of South Walton. Located along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast, the 26-mile stretch of sugar-white sand beaches and glistening emerald green water is a natural backdrop for creating memories that last a lifetime.

Whether getting away with the girls, the hubby, or the entire family, the destination offers something for everyone. The area’s beaches are complemented by world-class accommodations, award-winning dining, shopping, and outdoor pursuits. A ride along Scenic 30A, whether by car or bike, reveals charming beachside towns, each with a personality of its own. Communities such as Seaside, Grayton Beach, WaterColor, and Rosemary Beach invite visitors to explore the diverse array of shops, restaurants, and galleries on foot.

Accommodations in Beaches of South Walton are as diverse as the beach communities themselves. Whether staying at the luxurious WaterColor Inn, a quaint cottage in Seaside, Sandestin’s enchanting Village of Baytowne Wharf or a peaceful rental in Blue Mountain, comfortable, elegantly appointed accommodations are plentiful. Many Southern belles prefer hanging their hat at one of the five bed-and-breakfasts in the area. Whether the classic patterns of Vera Bradley at the Inn by the Sea in Seaside or a Florida motif in the Hibiscus House in Grayton Beach, there is a style to suit anyone.

When it comes to dining, Beaches of South Walton tempts visitors with culinary masterpieces and exceptional wines. While many destinations claim locally-sourced ingredients, area chefs and residents of Beaches of South Walton truly embrace this philosophy, depending on what’s fresh and can be sourced within a 100-mile radius. Not only does this approach ensure the freshest dishes, but it’s a reflection of why visitors come to Beaches of South Walton—for an authentic experience that’s true to its origins.

Shopping is also a popular pastime. From Silver Sands Factory Stores, the nation’s largest designer factory outlet, to locally owned boutiques and galleries, the variety of shopping options makes finding the perfect gift or one-of-a-kind treasure a special experience.

The area also boasts a thriving arts scene. Michael Granberry, Beaches of South Walton’s 2010 Artist of the Year, welcomes visitors to Ruskin Place, which has a diverse array of galleries. His gallery, The Art of Simple, showcases his photographic art as well as pieces from a contemporary mix of Southern artists.

For those who are inspired to find their own inner artist, there are ample opportunities to express creativity. From paint-your-own-pottery studios to art workshops to figure-drawing classes, novice to expert art lovers can try their hand at many art forms. Paint’n Place at The Village of Baytowne Wharf offers workshops for silver jewelry making, stained glass mosaics, hand building with clay, and wheel pottery.

Try a watercolor class with Donna Burgess, Beaches of South Walton’s 2008 Artist of the Year. Donna’s personal touch and supportive style make learning to paint watercolor fun and rewarding.
