3 Charming Autumn Tablescapes

Maybe it’s the nostalgic air of a fading summer or the hurry of harvest to put up the last of the bumper crop, but autumn seems to hold a special sentiment that draws us home for a spell. Celebrate the season with these ideas for fall tablescapes, each winning in its own special way.

Fall Tablesettings

1. Farmhouse Flavor

In a farmhouse-style eat-in kitchen, a simple runner featuring homespun stitching detailing adds just the right amount of warmth, as do subtly striped linen place mats. Choose only one or two bold elements to anchor the setting without overwhelming the space. A set of Alberto Pinto Plumes plates featuring handsome, strutting roosters and a centerpiece overflowing with fall flowers offer plenty of visual appeal and are a natural choice for informal autumn gatherings. Fill miniature baskets with acorns or pecans, and place at each seat for a final touch of country charm.

2. A Toast to the Season

Time taken to revel in the beauty of autumn comes in many forms, but setting a table amid the cascading vines at a nearby vineyard is certainly one of the loveliest. Create a simple sideboard for serving wine and appetizers by balancing an old door or panel across a pair of wine barrels, then add autumnal accents with mums and Gerbera daisies tucked in a vase and tiny white ‘Baby Boo’ pumpkins balanced on pedestals. Gather guests around a table set for six, draped with an elegant cloth in a luxe charcoal hue and accompanied by matching napkins. Add plenty of polish with gold accents—gilded chargers, beaded napkin rings, delicate amber goblets, twin candelabra, and a leaf-shaped serving dish. In keeping with the refined nature of the romantic setting, ebony dinner plates topped with Asian-themed black-and-white salad plates complete this sublime scene.

3. Sylvan Setting

Carpeted in a tapestry of fallen foliage and framed by supple branches, a farmhouse path beckons guests to join in this pastoral scene. A collection of rustic chairs gathers around a table layered with fringed throws that signal cooler days to come. At each place setting, miniature birds’ nests embrace clusters of vibrant burgundy mums—a nice, cheery welcome to the gathering. Warm-toned metals and smoky-blue tumblers combine for a mellow, nuanced palette, and a tousled bouquet of rose hips and oak leaves catches the soft sunlight. Pumpkins and gourds scattered about enhance the autumnal mood.
