Sample Southern delicacies as you relish the opportunity to converse with Phyllis and your companions in comfortable, inviting surrounds. Group transportation to and from dinner will be provided.

Friday, October 11
Join us for a welcome dinner at Hyatt Regency Birmingham—The Wynfrey Hotel, the perfect spot from which to explore the city we call home. Meet and mingle with our entire Southern Lady team and special guests while you enjoy delightful fare and fellowship.

Saturday, October 12
Begin the day by gathering in the hotel for a delicious breakfast and some time to shop our hand-curated boutique, featuring tableware, home décor, accessories, books, and more from favorite Southern artisans and entrepreneurs. VIP guests will enjoy access to the boutique one hour before general admission. The morning’s events are themed around creating a gracious Southern table, including notable experts such as Susan Gravely of Vietri and Carrie Morey of Callie’s Charleston Biscuits, who will lead demos and offer tips to inspire you in the art of entertaining. Then, get ready to laugh out loud: Humorist and longtime Southern Lady friend Jeanne Robertson takes the stage Saturday afternoon, a traditional CELEBRATION highlight! A lunchtime break on your own allows for additional shopping, a brief rest, or other pursuits. The fun concludes with the grand event finale: a pull-out-the-stops gala dinner in the Hyatt Regency Birmingham ballroom.

Sunday, October 13
Relax over brunch with friends new and old as a delectable denouement to an unforgettable weekend. We invite you to join us for a quiet devotional and heartfelt reflection, if you choose, with Phyllis Hoffman DePiano and others. Take one last chance to peruse the boutique before departing for home to revel in the memories made.

Having grown up in Birmingham amid the traditions of gracious living in the South, Phyllis launched Southern Lady two decades ago from a desire to create a publication for women who live in or simply dream of our region, no matter where they call home. As host of our CELEBRATION, she invites longtime readers and new devotees to savor the spirit of all things Southern.
Award-Winning Humorist Jeanne Robertson
For more than 40 years, North Carolina-born Jeanne has delighted audiences with her signature brand of humor based on personal experiences and life’s everyday moments. Her entertaining tales are sure to have you laughing until tears escape, while her lighthearted approach and gentle wisdom will kindle a lingering sense of joy in your heart.
Bridal Couture Expert Lori Allen
Atlanta-based bridal expert Lori Allen stars in the TLC network’s reality shows Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta and Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids, which are filmed onsite at her salon, bridals by lori. She opened her business—now one of the premier bridal venues in North America—just two weeks after graduating from the all-female Columbia College in South Carolina, and now enjoys an international clientele from as far away as Russia and Australia. In 2012, she revealed her battle with breast cancer in the TLC special Say Yes to the Cure: Lori’s Fight, which won the 2013 Realscreen Award for Best Health & Well Being Programming. Today, Lori’s honest depiction of her struggle to beat the disease inspires women around the world as she travels to share her story.
Callie’s Charleston Biscuits Founder Carrie Morey
Introduced to the world of Southern food and traditional biscuit-making through her mother’s catering business, Carrie founded Callie’s Charleston Biscuits in 2005. Her handcrafted delicacies (no machinery involved!) have since gained national prominence and widespread acclaim, with a robust retail line as well as a brick-and-mortar biscuit restaurant in Charleston.
Vietri Founder Susan Gravely
A special trip to Italy in 1983 inspired Susan to found Vietri, which has since become the largest U.S.-based importer of handmade Italian tableware and home accents. Based in North Carolina, Vietri’s beautiful collections have often graced the pages of Southern Lady, appearing in beloved regular features such as Mix & Match, Seasonal Settings, and many others.
Restaurateur and Caterer Ashley McMakin
Passionate about food and cooking since childhood, Ashley parlayed her home-based catering business, Ashley Mac’s, into a thriving trio of restaurants in her hometown of Birmingham. With help from husband Andy, she has garnered a loyal customer following thanks to her menu of homestyle classics, timeless desserts, and other treats.
Will I have to pay for airfare separately, or is it included in the event cost?
Travel to and from Birmingham is not included in the cost of your CELEBRATION attendance. Whether you fly, drive, or live in town, you are responsible for transportation to and from the event.
What is the nearest airport? How can I get from there to the event?
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) is approximately 20 miles from the Hyatt Regency Birmingham. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport by advance reservation only. Contact Guest Services at 205-444-5796 to reserve.

Does the Hyatt Regency Birmingham offer valet service? Do they charge for parking?
Valet service is available at $18 per day. Self-parking is available at $12 per day. Both include unlimited in-and-out privileges.
How do I register for the event?
If you have not registered yet, you may do so using our online form. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up for your spot before it’s filled!
How do I make my hotel reservation for the event?
Your hotel will be reserved automatically when you register for the event. If you have any special requirements for your room, they should be noted in your registration. If you have already registered, please contact Southern Lady with any change requests. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate late changes.
Will my dietary restrictions be accommodated in the provided meals?

I want to bring a travel companion, but he or she does not wish to attend the event. Will he or she be charged for event participation?
If you are traveling with a companion who will not be participating in CELEBRATION, you may register at the single-occupancy rate. Please note that your companion will not have access at any time to our CELEBRATION hosted events or facilities.
Will I have free time?
We have planned a multitude of engaging activities and speakers for your time with us, yet we also know how important rest is, especially on a vacation. For this reason, we have planned free time for our guests between check-in and dinner on Friday (as well as during that day for VIP Guests) and at lunchtime on Saturday. What if I can’t make it to part of the event?
While we hope you are able to enjoy the entirety of the activities we’ve planned for our guests, we understand that there may be some time conflicts. You are free to arrive late or leave early from the event if you need to do so. However, there will be no discount to the cost of the event.
Is the event handicap accessible?
The Hyatt Regency Birmingham event rooms are handicap accessible. If you require a handicap-accessible room for your overnight stay, please indicate this in your registration form. If you’ve already registered, please contact Southern Lady with your information. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate late changes.
What is the weather in Birmingham typically like this time of year?
October is among Alabama’s loveliest months! Weather is typically warm and dry, with high temperatures averaging 74 degrees and lows averaging 53 degrees. Rain and cold spells are, of course, always a possibility and we suggest you check the local forecast before packing.
What happens if the event is canceled or I cannot attend after I am registered?
If for some reason Southern Lady must cancel CELEBRATION, you will be notified and refunded your payment. However, we will be unable to refund any guest for an individual cancellation due to an emergency or sudden change in plans. Since the event fee is nonrefundable, we suggest buying trip insurance through a company such as Travelex. You can also check with your credit card company to see if travel insurance is provided. If you don’t purchase travel insurance, you agree to indemnify us against any charges that might otherwise be covered by your insurance. You further agree that we are not responsible for any costs of cancellation by you.
