A creamy sauce and a tangy pepper-and-onion mixture kick up traditional grilled bratwursts.
Fourth of July Bratwursts
Ingredients
Bratwursts
- 6 bratwursts, grilled according to package directions
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large red bell pepper, sliced into ¼-inch strips
- 1 large yellow bell pepper, sliced into ¼-inch strips
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced into ¼-inch strips
- ¼ cup teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 6 (6-inch) hoagie rolls, split
Bratwurst Sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ¼ cup whole-grain mustard
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
For bratwursts
- Preheat oven to 200°.
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place grilled bratwursts on prepared pan, and place in oven to keep warm.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add bell peppers and onion. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Add teriyaki sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, stirring to combine. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Split each bratwurst in half lengthwise, cutting to but not through the skin. Spread Bratwurst Sauce over cut sides of hoagie rolls. Place bratwursts, cut sides down, on bottoms of prepared hoagie rolls, and top with pepper mixture. Place tops of hoagie rolls on pepper mixture.
For bratwurst sauce
- In a small bowl, combine ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce, whisking to combine well.
