Create a seating area as charming as it is comfortable with a few easy updates. Give a favorite bench a quick makeover by covering it with a homespun blue-and-cream-striped fabric. Next, fashion a pillow cover in the same blue hue, and finish it off with a couple of silk leaves. Follow our easy DIY pillow cover tutorial to create a simple and gorgeous piece similar to the picture above in our Accents of Autumn feature in the September 2017 issue. Go to the next page to see the instructions.
First, lay your fabric flat so it looks like a rectangle. Lay your pillow on top of the fabric, centered in the middle, so each side is lined up with the fabric. Fold the bottom and top layer of the fabric over the pillow in the center.
Next, fold the fabric on the left to create a point on that side of the pillow.
Now, fold the fabric on the right to create a point on that side of the pillow.
With two points of fabric on both sides of your pillow, fold one point over the other in the center.
Next, open a safety pin and insert it through the center of the pillow where the two points meet. Make sure the points are firmly secure with the safety pin. Prepare another for securing the leaves to the pillow.
Place silk leaves over the pillow center and insert the safety pin point through the back side of it. Carefully, close the safety pin to complete your new decorative pillow.
